Georgia Senators to Hold Press Conference on Litigation Reform
Georgia State Senate Press Office | Kessarin Horvath | February 27, 2020
ATLANTA (February 26, 2020) | Last week, Sen. Steve Gooch (R– Dahlonega), along with 22 Georgia State Senators, introduced Senate Bill 415 to repair the state’s problematic lawsuit climate by reducing the financial burden of out of control legal costs faced by Georgia’s small businesses. Many of these senators will hold a press conference on Thursday, February 27, 2020, to discuss SB 415 and describe the impact it will have on Georgia’s farmers, truck drivers, doctors and small businesses.
“Georgia’s reputation as one of the worst states in the country for its legal climate is alarming and should be addressed immediately,” said Sen. Gooch. “The billboard personal injury lawyers have created a system that allows them to reap lavish windfall recoveries and staggering profits, while Georgia small businesses are placed on the cusp of bankruptcy and Georgia citizens pay substantially more for goods and services like gasoline, food, clothes and landscaping. The citizens of our state have demanded that the legislature restore fairness, transparency and stability to our lawsuit climate, and SB 415 seeks to achieve it. It is time to balance the scales in Georgia.”
