Gov. Nathan Deal Wednesday appointed Sarah Hawkins Warren to fill a vacancy on the Georgia Supreme Court.

Warren, who currently serves as the state’s solicitor general, will succeed Britt Grant, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last month to move up to the Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Warren previously was deputy solicitor general and served as a special counsel in the Georgia attorney general’s office in connection with water litigation.

“Solicitor General Warren is eminently qualified for the job and will make a superb addition to this state’s highest court,” Georgia Chief Justice Harris Hines said.

Warren, who lives in Atlanta, also was a partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Washington, D.C. She earned bachelor’s and law degrees from Duke University.
